Obstetric factors associated with anaemia in pregnancy in a primary health center in south-south Nigeria

Anaemia has been reported as one of the commonest medical complications associated with pregnancy in developing countries. It increases maternal, fetal and neonatal morbidity mortality significantly. In Nigeria, maternal anaemia usually predates period life most mothers. These women succumb to early unprepared marriage, give birth many children poor child spacing due poverty ignorance they book late for antenatal. This study determines obstetric factors a primary health centre Port Harcourt order create awareness on need institute preventive therapeutic measures. Methods: is cross-sectional; hospital- based study. A total two hundred twenty-seven pregnant attending antenatal clinic were enrolled into at booking centre. Data was collected by administrating questionnaires. Blood sample haemoglobin estimation. Means compared using z-test statistical significance set P<0.05. Results: Out 227, 111(48.9%) primigravida, whom anaemic (65.8%). Majority booked second trimester 135 (59.3%) those that third more (70.9%). Pregnant interval <1(66.7) > 4years (78.6%) mostly Conclusion: especially living countries can be reduced if are educated proper nutrition before ante-natal booking.
